Mangalore: Fr Jacob Mor Antonious Consecreated Assistant Bishop of Honnavar Mission

Mangalore, Sep 9: Fr Jacob Mor Antonious was consecrated assistant bishop of the Honnavar Mission of the Jacobite Syrian Church on Wednesday September 9, at St Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church in Jeppu.
The ceremony was held in the presence of priests of the Mission. The members of the Jacobite Syrian family were present in large numbers to witness the event.
Fr Anthonious had taken oath at the patriarch’s palace at Damascus in Syria on Sunday August 23. The patriarch of the Jacobite Church is His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zaka Iwas I.
Fr Antonious, earlier known as Rev P J Jacob, hails from Kullanki village in Kundapur taluk and is the son of Platotattil K C John and Eliyamma. He has completed 30 years in religious service.
After his ordination on 11 May, 1979, by Rev Beseliyous Poulose II at Atyadi St Mary’s Church, he served at Shiradi, Nelyadi, Renjiladi, Kunthuru, and Mangalore in Dakshina Kannada district besides Athyadi and Mudyodi in Udupi district.
There are six churches, six chapels, and six educational institutions, under Honnavar Mission. These include an old age home, orphanage, and prayer centres also.
