No NRC in Bihar, Nitish Kumar assures Prashant Kishor

New Delhi, Dec 14 (ET): The National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise will not be implemented in Bihar, the state chief minister Nitish Kumar assured his party’s vice-president Prashant Kishor on Saturday.

Kishor is said to have offered his resignation during his meeting with the Chief Minister on Saturday after taking a contrary position publicly to the party’s stand on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which has now received the assent of the President. The JD (U) voted in favour of the bill in Parliament while Kishor said the bill was unconstitutional.

In Saturday’s meeting, Kishor is said to have impressed upon Kumar that CAB’s combination with NRC would be discriminatory against the minorities, on which Kumar is said to have assured him that NRC will not be implemented in Bihar and that the CM would publicly take this position in a few days. The CAB, now being a law, will be examined by the Supreme Court next week, the duo are said to have discussed.

Kishor is said to have maintained his position before Kumar that the CAB was unconstitutional. On Friday, another senior leader of the JD (U), RCP Singh had said Kishor should quit the party if he did not agree with the CMs stand on CAB. Kumar however rejected Kishor’s offer to resign on Saturday.

Don’t trust both of them. This is also part of his ‘strategy’ in order to keep his minority voters happy.

First you go & vote in favor of CAB, once it get passed, then I will play a drama of resigning......

If Nitin objected to the unconstitutional CAB BJP would not have had the numbers but now he is saying NRC would not be implemented . Will have to wait and see. Who knows what BJP gave him underhandedly. These politicians cannot be trusted, they seek underhand dealings for their own benefit.
