Bhupathi-Knowles in Rogers CUP Quarters

IANS

Montreal (Canada), Aug 13: India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles of Bahamas have entered the quarterfinals of the $3,000,000 Rogers Cup tennis tournament.

The third-seeded pair, who got a bye in the first round, beat South African Jeff Coetzee and Austrian Jurgen Melzer 7-6(2), 6-4 here on Wednesday.

The Indo-Bahamian pair will now face sixth-seeded Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who got a walkover in their second round from the German Tommy Haas and Czech Radek Stepanek.

Bhupathi has claimed more doubles titles at the Rogers Cup than any other player in the Open Era.

He won his first of four titles here on his debut in 1997 with fellow Indian Leander Paes, clinched back-to-back titles in 2003, with Max Mirnyi of Belarus, and in 2004 again with Paes and reclaimed it in 2007 with Czech Pavel Vizner.
