Dipika, Anwesha in Junior World Squash Pre-quarters

Chennai, Jul 30: Two 17-year olds from Chennai, top seed and favourite Dipika Pallikal of India and compatriot Anwesha Reddy, seeded 16, entered the pre-quarterfinals of the girls singles of the junior World squash championship here on Thursday.

Dipika was in imperious form while defeating New Zealand’s Lana Harrison in just 19 minutes to remain on course.

In her next match slated for this evening, Dipika takes on Yathreb Adel of Egypt who packed off No.18 Milou van der Heijden of the Netherlands.

In contrast, Answeha needed all of 42 minutes and four games to quell Carrie Ramsey of England. She will next meet second seed Heba El Torky who led six Egyptians into the fourth round with a commanding win against Catalina Pelaez of Colombia, the match lasting a mere 13 minutes.

Late last night, the Indian challenge in the boys’ singles ended with the exit of Ramit Tandon, Ravi Dixit and Karan Malik.
