Mangalore, Jul 17:
An idol of Lord Shiva installed at Pandeswara Katte in the city was found to have been damaged on Friday July 17. Following this incident, police forces have been deployed in the adjoining areas to keep the situation under control.

The idol suffered some damages at its abdomen region. The idol is made up by fibre and cement.  The damage was noticed after several hours after the morning puja was performed to the idol.

A person residing in the neighbourhood noticed the damage and informed the police. At the same time, the residents from nearby areas, who got the information, gathered there, giving rise to apprehension of the situation turning tense.

The idol was found to have developed cracks, apparently due to stone pelting, said a shop owner adjacent to the Katte. He added that he has noticed a mentally retarded person roaming around since some time in the area.

The policemen from Pandeshwar station in the city also suspected that the mentally retarded person would have thrown stones towards the idol.  Ramakrishna, sub-inspector in Pandeswara station, who was on the spot, said that they would investigate the incident.

The idol was removed from the spot. As per Hindu customs, damaged idols are not fit to be worshipped.

The Katte is built at the bottom a holy fig tree. The idol of Lord Shiva had been installed on the Katte and puja was also performed everyday.  A number of devotees also take part in the puja there in the early morning.

A complaint also has been registered in this regard, at Pandeshwar police station by a member of the committee involved with the administration of the Katte.

Every religion should be respected & honoured but I do not understand the way the God''s idol appear on the roadside which later turn into a temple. With great respect to all religion, I do not accept this kind of practice of preaching any religion. Religion is honesty, truth, discipline, harmony & sanctity. Illegally occupying a public place & disrupting the footpath, road expansion & the traffic in the name of religion is not acceptable in the civilised world, it may be any religion.

All these happenings are because there are lot of illiterate, jobless and senseless youngsters. They do not have any sense or religion. They want to create non sense and spoil the peaceful atmosphere and take undue advantage of the situation for their lively hood. For all these heavily grown and growing population of India is the cause where no one has time to look after and grow their children in proper manner. Let all irrespective of religion understand the ever growing population problem and control it for better future. Let us not believe any political parties as all political parties are alike with out any interest for the betterment general public.

Please do not disturb others (even for an animal). One day you also will be treated in the mental hospital. Everybody knows that this treatment is very different from other treatments.

It is sad and diabolical to destroy a religious object of any religion. The people who are undertaking this kind of evil things are motivated to create friction in the society, and simply interested in political mileage. These criminals must be punished severely because they can create a religious inferno in the society.

You are right Jawar. If the man is mentally challenged then nothing can be done other than sending him to a rehabilitation center for his care and treatment but it is sad when normal people like us act like insane and fight on the name of religion. We should learn to respect others'' religion, then only there can be peace and prosperity. God bless all.
