Ind MLA Varthur Prakash Withdraws Support to Yeddi Regime

Varthur Prakash withdraws support to BSY regime

BANGALORE, JUN 22:  Even as the internal bickering and dissidence within Karnataka’s ruling BJP is yet to be resolved, independent MLA Varthur Prakash has withdrawn the ``unconditional’’ support extended by him to the B S Yeddyurappa regime.

However, the withdrawal of support by Prakash, who contested the 2008 assembly elections as a Congress rebel candidate from Kolar and got elected, is unlikely to have any bearing on the stability of the Yeddyurappa regime which has just completed one year in office on May 30.

The ruling BJP, which won 110 seats in the 224-member assembly and marginally short of the magic mark of 113 for a simple majority, was able to overcome his shortcoming by enlisting the unconditional support extended by all the six independent MLAs.

The ruling party, however, sought to bridge the gap and improve its strength in the assembly by persuading MLAs elected on Congress or JD(S) tickets to resign their seats and contest on behalf of BJP by offering allurements of office and even money under what has come to be known as ``Operation Lotus’’ resulting in the party’s strength going up to 115.

Varthur Prakash, a known supporter of Congress leader Siddaramaiah who was recently elevated as the opposition leader in the state legislative assembly, was unceremoniously stripped of his post as chairman of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KUWSSB). He was reward for his support to the BJP government along with the other five independent MLAs, who were offered cabinet ministerial berths.

The independent MLA submitted a letter to assembly speaker Jagadish Shettar on Monday formally intimating his decision to dissociate from BJP. The speaker confirmed that he had received the letter from Prakash.

State BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda had announced the ouster of Prakash as chairman of KUWSSB last week for his public criticism of the chief minister and his government’s style of functioning

Prakash, who started off as a supporter of Siddaramaiah and shot into limelight as a real estate businessman, is known for organising a series of functions in Kolar and other places in support of the Congress leader. In fact, it is these activities that boosted his political career.

He has decided to organise a ``Swabhimani’’ (self-respect) convention in Haveri soon to expose what he termed as the ``treachery’’ of BJP and its anti-people policies as also failures to live up to the promises made to the people. He has also announced plans to tour 40 taluks prior to the Haveri convention to enlighten the people about the betrayal of the BJP regime to fulfil its electoral promises of supplying 25 kg of rice to the poor at Rs 3 per kg, free power to irrigation pumpsets and provide unemployment allowance of Rs 1500 a month to the jobless youth.

Claiming that he was not allowed a free hand in running KUWSSB and was fed up with the frequent interference from the chief minister and his family members, Prakash alleged that a majority of the BJP MLAs as well as ministers were unhappy. ``There is no freedom for the ministers to work independently. The entire Government is run by a clique comprising a few ministers close to Yeddyurappa and his family members,’’ he said.

Capt Cornelio, Why don''t you ask a few of your fellow officers to join together and fight a war against a neighbouring country, just to satisfy Mr Aditya. He is feeling sad and upset that our officers are retiring without fighting any war and not getting any medals. I am sure a a lot of self appointed moderators on this panel will now jump on me for my comments.

CAPT.CORNELIO, UDUPI -Don''t worry much about inner politics.. Actually, we have main threat from our neighbouring countries. Try to concentrate atleast to safeguard our borders which is more risky than politics. Highly ranked officals are nowadays simply retiring without any war and medals to their credit...

Mr aditya u r BJP..will not wipe out but it will not come to power bcoz there is no MR VAJAPAI and MR Advani after some time..it means there are no able leaders in BJP..or Mass Leader and out of 85% of HINDUS hardly 5% people are communal..rest some percent people misguided for the time being..there is no scope for Hindu Taliban in India...majority of the Hindus are secular..and progress thinkers..and SARVAMATHASAHISHNU.

If the Bharatiya Janata Party’s credibility as a viable national political party is taking a beating, the party has no one but itself to blame. Despite the BJP’s commendable managerial and organisational abilities, the party has come a cropper in the way it projects its core philosophy. The BJP’s dismal performance in the just-concluded general elections is testimony that re-promising to build the Ram mandir at Ayodhya and pushing a narrow and exclusivist version of Hinduism isn’t that appealing to the electorate any more.

I believe in hindutva but not this hindutva shown by the current BJP/BD/VHP/RSS/SRS Shame on these people. Finishing the little image of hindus

Mr.EDWARD, MANGALORE - Can you justify, how BJP will wipe out from the country?. Majority people of India are Hindus(85%) - one or other day they will support BJP or any other Parties which will fulfill there rights. Both Congress/BJP itself is two sides of coin looking interest of majority people. I am surprising where you people stand?. Nor here nor there.. hanging in between.

Mr. Edward your driving your vehicle of the way track. the issue here is Mr.Varthur & not Lalgarh. Pehaps, Mr.Varthur has not gained much & so now he running away. The ruling state govt. has enough MLA for simple majority & the govt. collapsing is now a dream. BJP may have ups & down in result in various parts of India, but completely wiping out is pure a dream.

BY DOING THIS IT IS A ENDING OF BJP''S DIRTY POLITICS & GOVT. IN KARNATAKA. EVEN IN ENTIRE INDIA, BJP WILL BE COMPLTELY WIPED OUT ALONGWITH BAJRANGDAL-VHP-RSS. PEOPLE OF INDIA NOW UNDERSTAND THESE PARTIES CPI(M), WHAT IS HAPPEINING IN LALGARH. DO WE NEED INNOCENT PEOPLE TO BE KILLED / BITRAYED.

THE REVOLUTION IS STARTED IN INDIA. PEOPLE HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN BEFORE, THE CLEAR MSG FOR THESE PARTIES ARE PERFORM OR PERISH. THUS WE NEED DEVELOPMENT, PEACE & HARMONY AMONG PEOPLE AND NOT FIGHT OR CIVIL UNREST IN OUR SOCEITY AS WELL AS IN OUR COUNTRY.

Withdrawal of Varthur Prakash will no way effect Mr.Yeddi. At the time of oath taking a Banner of Varthur Prakash was seen where he was shown tamming two tigers. Again to give support to Yeddi he had laid condition that he would be made CM. Varthur has been known for his rash character, but he posses good money, as result he has been spending lavishly in all past election in his constituency. It is best that he has come out.
