Sridhar, Saina Advance to Singapore Open Quarterfinals


New Delhi, June 11 (IANS):  Anup Sridhar and Saina Nehwal advanced to the quarterfinals of the Aviva Singapore Open Super Series badminton tournament with fighting victories Thursday.

Sridhar, who had to qualify for the main draw, upset second seed Peter Gade of Denmark 21-19, 16-21, 21-13 in the almost hour-long contest.

The Indian will next meet Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana.

Sixth seed Saina beat Indonesian Adrianti Firdasari 21-18, 17-21, 21-17 to move into the last 16.

She will now face third seed Lin Wang of China in the quarterfinals.
