Tennis: Somdev Loses in French Open Qualifiers Final

Paris, May 22 (IANS) : India No.1 Somdev Devvarman was decimated by third-seeded Brazilian Marcos Daniel 6-0, 6-1 in the French Open tennis qualifiers final here Friday.

Daniel, who won the clay court Challenger at Zagreb last week, dominated from the start, breaking the 138th-ranked Indian five times during the 58 minute match. Somdev, on the other hand, struggled with his serve, his first serve accuracy being only 30 percent.

Somdev, 24, however had his opportunities, earning as many as five break points but he failed to convert any.

The Indian hit only nine winners as compared to Daniel's 30.

Daniel, ranked 96, had also eliminated India's Prakash Amritraj in the first round.
