IPL Special - 'Monkeygate' at the Centurion!

Centurion, May 19:
Andrew Symonds may not have liked hitting a six at the Centurion. Among other things, the scoreboard often flashed 'Funkey Monkey' the moment somebody hit a six.

It happened at least twice, when Albie Morkel and Brendon McCullum hit two overboundaries. The IPL commission didn't seem to notice it, but when the TOI brought it to their notice, one of the officials was quite surprised.

"Are they showing it? We'll have to bring it to the notice of the local authorities so that they don't show it again. This can turn into a controversy," a senior IPL official said.

Former Zimbabwe skipper Alastair Campbell, who is part of the SuperSport commentary team, was horrified. "I'm sure you're referring to the Harbhajan-Symonds incident. I don't quite know whether monkey is a racial slur in this part of the world, but it is definitely a touchy issue," he said.

"It's definite that the local authorities have not done their homework properly. I hope they don't show it again," Campbell added.
