Dhule: BJP, Shiv Sena Taking Country Backward - Sonia

PTI

Dhule (Maharastra), Apr 20: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday launched a frontal attack on BJP and Shiv Sena accusing them of being "communal and parochial" and taking the country backward and said "these people remember Lord Ram only during elections".

"These people remember Lord Ram only during elections," Gandhi said addressing an election rally here in Marathwada region.

"It is unfortunate that those invoking the name of secular and democratic ruler like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are those who divide people on the basis of region and religion," she says.

Dubbing BJP and Sena 'communal and parochial parties', Sonia said these parties were taking the country backward.

"The new generation is fed up of politics of regionalism, casteism and also criminalization of politics," she said.

Terming Indo-US nuclear deal as an achievement of UPA government, Gandhi said the deal was done "on our terms but due to opposition to the deal from within the country, the country's image globally was tarnished."

The history of BJP and Sena has been one of opposing any progressive step, Sonia charged and added "these people were opposing when Congress was fighting for independence."

Hamid - perhaps you did not understand it. You spilt your entire vocabulary in that one line. There is a truth to it. Who would stop a Dalit from entering a temple. It has to be either the "muktheshwar" and team or the purohit ( a brahamin ), which I am sure you have assumed. A hindu does not need to go to a temple to worship. Having said that, my question to you would be, why are you worried that a Dalit was denied a chance to worship ''God'' in a temple, when you proclaim that any God other than Allah and for the christians "Jesus" (pbuh) is non existant. If we go by this, the Dalit was not denied of anything ..

Lydia - You are missing a fundamental difference between a temple and a church. A Church is part of an enterprise called Christianity, where the goal is to get people in to worship. If you sin you need to confess, similar to a mall where success is based on the people who visit it. A temple is not a public place, it is not built at a strategic place rather it is built by a belief. A hindu is not tied to a temple, like your parish. There is no need for hindu to go to a temple his entire life. So if a dalit is not allowed, it is due to the people who own the temple and not ''Hindus'' that you are trying to pin the blame on. Did your forefathers not convert because they did not like what the hindu''s were doing!!?. They hated the caste system too I guess?. Now you hate the hindu''s.. So this blame, hate and run will never stop from your kind.

Rajesh (Barbados), The discussion here is not about class but discrimination against Dalits from worshiping in temples especially built for them. Please read Daiji news (http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=59082&n_tit=Mangalore%3A Temples for Dalits Dominated by %91Caste%92 Hindus ) for more details. For your information, a converted one or a by-bith Chistian, there is no restriction on entering or worshiping in the Church. At any given moment you will find Christians more mixing with other people than anybody else in India which sets me and Nagesh Nayak very much apart. I wonder how you did not find much difference. I regard the class based on economic level and I very much support the poor getting governments help irrelevant to their present or past religion so that there will be less gap between two classes, the rich and poor.

Dear Lydia Lobo, I do not find any much diffrence between yourself and Nagesh.Mind you, you should be talking about dalit christians and upper class christian communities before bumping on to another community!Well, once you wipe out these upper and lower cast in every community, you still have upper and lower class based on Income! that could be another era for India to become a soviet socialist India. Cheers.

Regarding the Indo-US nuclear deal the whole country was against that deal. UPA government has to clarify the purpose of the deal. Dr. Manmohan Singh should not act as Viceroy of US. The most expensive nuclear energy is bringing all the dangers this deal has as the solution to power crisis. Coal and Hydel projects are comparatively very cheaper than this.

It is clear that the deal is for the benefit of American nuclear corporates. The proposed natural gas project from Iran was the real solution to the crisis.

Many such statements as made by Sonia now, are responsible for making BJP stronger. Sonia in last Gujarat LS elections termed Modi ''Merchant of death'', & gave a sweep victory for BJP. Mrs.Sonia better look her base first before making comments.

Her statments on Shivaji, will defintly effect results in favour of oppositions in Maharastra. In fact it was Congress Govt. which facilitated Rama pooja long back, & just few years back breaking of Ram Sethu. UPA has been far worse in term of providing internal security. Almost most of states have witnessed terrorist attacks in its present rule, compared to all earlier central govt''s. The worst of all terrorist attacks is Mumbai, where in state & in Central, Congress was primary ruling party

Nagesh, what about terrorism in the form of Sri Ram Sene , Bajrang Dal and RSS? Are they not taking the law in their own hands? Pseudo secularists are much better than you nationalists. Who released the terrorists in Afghanistan? Who Praised Jinnah in Pakistan? Who tried to mend relations with Pakistan and then got stabbed in the back through the Kargil episode? The Congress takes a stronger stand than BJP in confronting Pakistan. Jai Ho. Jai Hind

These fanatics are just good in arguments and counter arguments. They never accept the realities. The problem is they have been poisoned their mind to talk like that. You cant expect from them the good things - secularism, security, peace and development. They have only one thing in mind - hatred to fellow Indians. DK people will have to face bitter days ahead .

If any country has to develop, energy security plays a very important role. Be it farmers suicide, recession, poverty, industrial growth etc. In this context Dr. Manmohan singh has a distinct vision. If India has to develop it must be independent on its energy needs and he almost played a gamble with his coalition partners to garner the Indo-US nuclear deal. What a selfless man.

All the opposition and left parties didn’t seem to understand the need of this important deal. They engaged themselves in petty politics on the basis of religion. Only Dr. Manmohan singh can take India to become a developed nation. Do you all agree?

I used to like BJP before. But the recent problems the Christians and Muslims faced in Karnataka made me believe that BJP is trouble creating party. It is no more a secular party. If BJP comes to power they will be no peace in our country.

Is it not congress responsible for the criminilization and corruption in Indian politics? I feel biggest gift in 50 years of congress ruling was corruption. There were times when they won more than two-thirds majority and they could have easily passed legislations which could have been benificial to common people..Instead of serving nation they corrupted the nation. Congress has no standing on these issues.

I do not belong to any political party. But Smt.Soniyaji''s comments  are wrong. What action they took against Telgi who cheated not only the public but also the Govt. why govt cannot recover from him. Atleast you can minimise the country''s budget deficit.
