Muscat: Coastal Cricket Team Celebrates 14th Anniversary

Muscat, Mar 15: The 14th Annual Day of Coastal Cricket Team was celebrated on Thursday, 12th March 2009 at the party hall of Copper Chimney Restaurant at CBD area - Muscat.
The ceremony commenced around 9.30 pm with a welcome address by noted Konkani artiste and well-known social activist Walter Mendonca. Coastal Cricket Team’s founder Yuvraj, Jerald Mascarenhas – Coastal Cricket Team’s Committee member as well as active player, Flavian Pereira of Sheika Al Sharji and one of the sponsors, Clarence Pinto and Dilip Correa of daijiworld.com’s Muscat Team were on the dais.
During the function, all the team members and sponsors were honored by the team owner and founder Yuvraj with beautiful gifts. Each team member was presented sports outfit, sponsored by Arun Kumar. Jerald Mascarenhas during his presentation briefed the recent achievements of Coastal Cricket Team in various tournaments in Muscat. He also highlighted the tournaments of 2008 and 2009 where Coastal Cricket Team had won trophies. He also appreciated the leadership qualities of Yuvraj who had worked relentlessly to unite the team and present their best performance in the various tournaments. Clarence Pinto of daijiworld.com and current President of MCCP, commended the efforts of Yuvraj and the spirit of the team members. He also wished good luck to the team in the future tournaments and prayed that this team of Karnataka continues its spirit and unity for long time in Sultanate of Oman
The entertainment part of the celebrations were included fun games for members which were conducted by Jacintha Mendonca, Walter Mendonca and Jerald Mascarenhas. Housie Housie game was conducted by Flavian Pereira
Here is a short brief on Coastal Cricket Team. It was founded by Yuvraj 14 years ago in Muscat. Yuvraj, Muscat based entrepreneur of coastal Karnataka, showing a lot of interest in promoting cricket in Muscat by giving opportunities to MRI Cricket ball players of Karnataka origin in Muscat. Also, he has been organizing MRI ball cricket tournaments every year for all cricket teams in Muscat.
The tournament of 2009 was held from 06 February 2009 to 20 February 2009. A total of 28 junior teams and 8 senior teams participated in the tournament. The final was held on 20 February 2009. The Junior Cup of Coastal Cricket Cup 2009 was won by DAMAS Eleven Cricket Team and the Senior Cup was won by Al-Faizal Cricket Team. The finals of the tournament took place with some spectacular entertainment programmes in the presence of a huge crowd and some honourable guests at the Al-Khuwair Cricket Ground. The tournament was sponsored by Arun Kumar, of Copper Chimney and Sai Seas Restaurant and co-sponsored by Al-Rafi Hotel, Dubai (Group hotel of Copper Chimney), Technical Trading Co LLC, Suraj Rebello of Bin Salim Enterprises LLC, Yuvraj of Lahoob Trading Est., Flavian Pereira of Sheika Al-Shraji Est., Chandu Bhat of Ahmed Said Trading Est., and Ideal International LLC. The finals were presided by Arun Kumar, Yuvraj, Suraj Rebello, Flavian Pereira, Chandu Bhat, Walter Mendonca and also by Jerald Mascarenhas, who is also a committee and team member of Coast Cricket Team. Spectacular trophies and attractive prizes were presented to the winners, runners up, Man of the Match for each match, Best Batsman of the Tournament, Best Bowler of the Tournament and a special prize of Return Air Ticket from Muscat - Dubai with two days stay in Rafi Hotel Dubai was presented to the player who hit highest number of sixers in the tournament. It was truly a great spirit of Cricket coming alive in Muscat through Coastal Cricket Team – Muscat.
