Mangalore: SAC Students Deprived of Hall Tickets Plan Protest

Mangalore: SAC Students Deprived of Hall Tickets Plan Protest

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (RS/SP)

Mangalore, Mar 14:
The Pre-University College students of St Aloysius Pre-University College in the city, issuance of hall tickets to whom was denied, said that they have decided to present a memorandum to the college principal, requesting him to reconsider his stand and allow them to appear for the examinations. They have also decided to then go on protest if his response is not positive.

Speaking at a press meet held here on Saturday March 14,  Gururaj, ex-secretary of  the All college Students  Union said, the  students will at first, hand over a request letter to the principal. "If it fails to have the desired effect, we will stage a protest against the denial of hall tickets to the students, in the interest of their future," he explained.

“Principal of the college John D’Silva had refused to issue hall tickets for the examination, to some of the students, who are facing shortage of requisite attendance. The list shrank after money exchanged hands. The list of students who had shortage of attendance had 50 names earlier, but it has come down to just 12 now. The examination commenced on Friday March 13. The others too should be issued hall tickets so as to enable them to appear for at least the remaining examinations now," he argued.

“The principal has blocked the website of the college, from where we could have collected the attendance details and details of shortage if any.  When the remaining 12 students made a plea to allow them to appear for the examination by issuing them their hall tickets, they were denied hall tickets not only because of the short-fall in attendance but also for speaking to the media on the subject,” he claimed. "Who called the media to the principal's chamber?" the principal is said to have questioned the students.

The 12 students, who were also present in the press meet said that they would be, as a last resort, hand over a memorandum to the principal, seeking issuance of the hall tickets. "If he refuses to budge, we will protest strongly," they explained.

The 12 students can write the remaining examinations if the hall tickets are issued to them on Monday March 16. But the deputy director of PU Education, Gore Goruba, has already informed the media that there is no chance of issuing the hall tickets to the students as the college administration has records to show that these students suffer from attendance shortage. There is a strict rule formulated by the PU Education Board, making it mandatory for the students to have at least 75% attendance, he had stated.

Vineeth Alva, pesident, 'Jayakarnataka' youth wing, Nemiraj, All College Students Union ex-member and others were present at the press meet.

hello. i have studied in s. Aloysius institution since 1 st std , that means for 12 years. i know Mr John D' silva personally. he is man of discipline and has been working as a student friendly student loving lecturer. but when it comes to irregularity he does not mind whether one is MLA's son or a poor man's son.

he is particular about attendence of students for their own good. i think the parents need to understand from this that the principal has opned their eyes to a reality that will determine their son or daughter's future. let us not tarnish this issue with a cimmunal tag. M lore has been known has a multi cultural and peace loving cosmos. may it still remain exemplary to other places and districts.

If these students are right, let them approach court or Education department for the justice rather than approaching outsiders.

The St. Aloysius College authorities should not budge for any demands of these students who not only violated rules but also have set a wrong precedence for the entire student community. Hats off to St. Aloysius.

I pity you so called union leaders. If you are supporting the students who have no enough attendence to appear for their exams, what guidance and future you will give for your own children ? You guys better start an educational institution sponsored by ABVP, University, where all students can appear for exams without attending any classes.

Those people in the student union should make sure that they help students in the right way instead of blaming the headmaster when the students are wrong. Some of the union leaders look like rogues. They should be more descent and presentable. Aloysius College is not like it used to be. With all the so called globalization in Mangalore everything is going down. Alas, the good old days at SAC are no longer there. Instead these sort of corrupt union leaders have taken their place and they encourage bad behavior.

Dear Students if you have comitted mistake admit your mistake and do not blame the principal and the institution. Every student is aware of the law of PU board of education which rule is passed by the board that every student must have 75% of attendence. So if a student is running by short of 75% attendence then how the student is eligible for a hall ticket?

So dear students be careful if you like to build your bright and better future in the near future do your duties and attend your classes regularly then only you will able to build your furture and you will eligible for the hall ticket.

Here I can say that the parents of the students are mainly responsible for spoiling the future of their student children every parents have a right to go the college in a year two or three times and to check the progress of their children and the whereabout of the students. I know so many parents not doing this therefore their children spoil their future. Even many of the students parents are not checking the whereabout of their children.

So dear parents you take care of your own student child in the right time then only you will able to build the futre of your child. If not you will only responsible for the futre of your child.

First and foremost why media is giving importantce and even events like press conferance to these students. I think it is media they are projecting them as real heros. Whatever steps taken by principal holds the real quality of democracy. And in next accedemic year this will be a lesson for class bunkers.

Tell me dear friends, if you do not have the attendance required for the final exams, why the authority should give you hall tickets? Do you know by doing this you are going to ruin your life?? You must learn to obey the rules of any institution and university and then ask for your rights. I have a good suggestion for you, why can not you organize a protest in front of the college and demand a marks sheet with distinction marks on it? Do you know to appear in the exam, you need to study and do some hard work!!!! It much better way to secure your degree!!!! Principal John D’ Silva this is our humble request to you – “PLEASE DO NOT GIVE HALL TICKETS TO THEM…. DO NOT GIVE THEM…. THAT IS IT!!!!”

Boys ! I too was a student of the same college and was more trouble maker that all of you boys put togeather. I too had a issue with the hall ticket due to my attendence ... But managed to make sure i get the required 75 % of attendence required !! my advise to you boys is that dont be poppets to other political parties interest and think u are made to be heros in front of others ....At the end you will realise what fool you ppl have made of your self and wasted u r as well as others time !! My advise is to use teh time now to study for your exam in June and try to pass !!

These boys haven't got a clue about where they are stepping towards. They r ruining their own life. Instead of involving the media and fighting to get the hall tickets now, they should have attended the classes properly to keep up their attendance. I strongly agree with Prof. John dsilva's decision.

These students should look at them selves as to what wrong they have done. By calling a press conference and making this a big issue is not correct, politics should not be allowed along with education. Rules are for everyone. In cricket once the empire has given his decision it is not changed but accepted. I was also Students Union President and as mentioned by Lyod student unions should educate the students of the such consequences rather than supporting the wrong doers

All this is the result of self rule by self styled groups. Nowadays everyone knows that we have an Impotent government in the state and it is OK for anyone to take law in their own hands and get away with it. Things are bound to get worse for people of Karnataka, this is just the begining.

The students need to answer the exams first and then they need to pass the exams. If they do not have the attendance and the authorities feel they are not eligible, "do they fear that these students will pass and make them look like fools" If one of the students gets a rank "will the authorities sack the teacher". Let the students answer the exams!! Passing and failing comes next and then there will be no protest or strike for that!

I think these guys are senseless….The College has to follow the guidelines set by the Education Department. Moreover the education department too has denied hall tickets to these students. Now they should do hunger strike, protest etc. in front of Education Department and not in front of SAC. I do not see any logic in their argument. They brought the media… made it a big news and they also brought officers of the Education Department to the show and now once again they blame the College. They try to malign the name of the college in the name of religion.

Instead of protesting students union should advise those students who have shortage of attendance should for bunking the classes, and should teach good discipline for students, that may be much better so that in future nobody should bunk class without any reasons. I always support Students Bcoz even i was also a Pupil president of the college, but we should not support students for indiscipline works, make students stronger for good works so that in future they should not curse you for encouraging them to do bad works.

These are our future going to be thn leaders who cannot follow the rules. If there is a Academy Policy on attendance, no matter whatever the protest, the college should not allow these students to write the exams. That is the precedent. Common students, if you cannot attend the classes, look after other study methods like distance education or online education. I believe the main reason for missing PUC classes are dozens of entrance exams for engineering and medicine. Students are loosing the trust on PUC exams as there is no validiy or reliability as they main focus is on getting through entrance exams. There should be a great change in PUC and they should change them under high school board.
