UAE: Never Ignore Low Back Pain – Advises Expert

UAE, Mar 14:
The nursing department of GMC Hospital Ajman hosted a seminar on 'Management of Low Back Pain' at the Gulf Medical University (GMU) campus recently.
 
Dr V S Kumar, associate professor of orthopaedics at GMC Hospital, emphasized on the importance of proper identification of different causes of low back pain and elaborated on different  methods of medical and surgical management of low back pain (LBP). 
 
“LBP normally occurs in all types of lifestyle activities –active or sedentary and causes considerable amount of distress, affecting the lifestyles,” he said.

Improper techniques of lifestyle activities cause undue stress on the back. Leading an active lifestyle, proper exercise, apt lifting techniques at workplaces etc., ease the burden on the low back  and reduce the occurrence of LBP symptoms,  said Praveen Kumar, senior physiotherapist of GMC hospital and senior faculty at Gulf College of Allied Health Sciences, GMU Ajman.
 
Dr  Amit Chaturvedi, assistant professor of orthopaedics at GMC Hospital spoke about different problems of  LBP, their presentation and intervention strategies.
                            
The purpose of the seminar was to offer a common platform for professionals and nurses to exchange knowledge about various techniques and management of medical and surgical practices in the hospital. GMC Hospital nursing department holds monthly seminars as part of the Continuing Nursing Education and Professional Development Programmes initiated by the hospital.
 
The conference was accredited by the ministry of health.
