PDP offers legal assistance to JKLF, Jamaat

Srinagar, Mar 26 (IANS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday offered legal assistance to the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the local Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) organisations.

Senior PDP leader and noted advocate Muzaffar Hussain Beg told a gathering of party workers in Baramulla town that the PDP was ready to provide legal assistance to both Jamaat and JKLF in the Supreme Court and the High Court.

"We are ready to provide legal assistance to both the JKLF and JeI, provided they trust us," Beg said.

PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had called the government's decision to ban the JKLF and Jamaat as a repressive measure which would only increase the sense of alienation among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
