Karkala, Feb 28: As per an estimate, about 10,000 houses located within the limits of 34 gram panchayats including the municipal limits here face the prospects of being razed to the ground. These beneficiaries had built their houses after filing applications under rule 94c and 94 cc.
Belman panchayat began this drive by evicting five families which had built sheds illegally in government land at Jantra within its gram panchayat limits. A team of panchayat officials led by panchayat development officer, Prakash, and accompanied by police personnel of the rural police station here, cleared the land of encroachments. As per information, this operation was conducted under instructions of the tahsildar here. These families had rested on assurances given by someone before building sheds in government land with the hope that the space will be their own in course of time.

Sources say that some people living in Jantra area had complained about the people who had built sheds in government and without authorization. The local panchayat had passed a resolution to clear these houses which were built by Manjula, Vanita, Akshata, Gauri, and Sevanthi. It is said that more demolitions will take place in the entire taluk like the demolitions in Belman which was done after the panchayat took a decision to that effect. Most of those who built these illegal houses happen to be innocent people who built habitats at the assurance of people who had sought votes from these people.
It is said that in tune with the decision taken by the panchayat, these families had been served with eviction notice thrice. As they did not respond, the families were driven away.
A panchayat member said that it is improper to issue title deeds to those who build houses in government land with the support of people's representatives. He feels that the house sites should be distributed as per procedure by preparing list of people not having house sites and distributing sites to them if government land is available.
Belman gram panchayat president, Varija Salian, said that those who had built houses by the roadsides illegally have been evicted after issuance of notices by the panchayat in tune with the public complaints and orders of the tahsildar. She said that effort would be made in future to provide government sites to eligible people. Zilla panchayat member, Reshma Uday Shetty, also said that it was improper for these people to build houses illegally in government land and that preference would be given to eligible beneficiaries when allotting government sites in future.

Thu, Feb 28 2019Before Pakistan drops the bomb 'Belman panchayat' does it for poor of India who built a shelter with their sweat.
It should be noted that BJP's former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa spent 21 days in jail in denotification case. He spent in jail like 'Honeymoon holidays'.
In one hand Supreme Court wants to remove more than 10 lakh tribals from the forest which is home since their ancestors lived. In another hand poor evicted in the name of illegal government land occupation.
Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Mehul Choksi, Chandra Kochar, Rotomac pen, Winsor Diamond of Adani Nephew can go and settle in a new country. Very will the poor Indian has to go?
Is poor in India is going to be a refugee in their own nation?

Thu, Feb 28 2019Its painful to see houses demolished. Ya may be they were illegally built, but hard earned money was spent to build it.
Instead of evicting like this I wish panchayat charged some rent to people who stay there.
One more important question would be was water and power connection given to these houses.
If yes how did that happen????

Thu, Feb 28 2019By this likewise Yellur Panchayath President /Members and PDO must learn, as there are many illegal houses are constructed opp Santhoor bus stop Vicinity. Officials must visit phsically and find out if there are any illegal constructions around. And also given to understand that most of the premises are rented out to outstation poeple.

Thu, Feb 28 2019When these families built the houses where were you Panchayat personnel ? Once you leave them to enter and after entering, hit them. They are human beings not animals... First provide houses for them and then clear up the illegal houses. Now exams too are going on.. Very sad.. Politicians should understand along with food and clothing, shelter too one of the basic necessities. God bless these poor people..

Thu, Feb 28 2019This case of Belman is really very pathetic. I feel life is all about luck. In contrast to this, in Mumbai, people who built their slum houses on govt, municipal, railway land are given 300 sft (carpet area) self contained apartments under slum rehabilitation scheme. In my area, these apartments are being sold at 60 lakhs and I heard at Dharavi they are quoted at about one crore.

Thu, Feb 28 2019Panchayat should also look at tbe plastic and other garbage dumped on the roadside and get it cleaned regularly.
Catering companies dump their used disposables on the roads in front of unoccupied houses. They should be penalised.

Thu, Feb 28 2019Ridiculous and barbaric action by the Punchayath. They should rarefy the Financial status of the Poor families before demolishing / Bulldozing the shelters of Poor People. Government should compensate or make some alternate arrangements to those who lost their shelters. Where those poor people will go. Government or the so called peoples representatives should help these poor people, they elected for that, since these victims are not influential politically. We have classic examples of demolitions in Bangalore for Raja Canal evacuations. Poor peoples lost their shelters when it comes to politicians and Cene stars demolition drive stopped. "NEED JUSTICE TO POOR WHO LOST THEIR SHELTER" Badavarannu bikshurannagi Madadiri"
