Mumbai, Jan 24:
Governor S C Jamir has strongly condemned the attack on the office of popular Marathi newspaper ‘Navakal’ on Thursday January 22.

Governor Jamir in his press statement said that he was shocked to hear the news of the attack on the office of the popular daily and condemned it in the strongest possible manner. It is regrettable that attacks on the media are taking place in a progressive state like Maharashtra, he said.

Last June, there was a similar attack on the residence of the editor of ‘Lok Satta’. There is no place for this kind of intimidation tactics in a democratic society like ours where the media enjoys freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution. Incidents such as the present one tarnish the good image of the state and therefore, must be dealt with firmly, said the Governor.

He also urged the chief minister to bring the culprits behind the attack to justice at the earliest and to make sure that such incidents do not recur in future.
