I think a greater part of India dont know what slums are.? On one my return to India from a gulf country, a well to do gents tailor whom I knew, asked me to deliver a packet to his house. On reading the address, I was bewildered to learn that was in one of the slums of Mumbai. The tailor was not at all shy or embarrased tell others that he was living in one of the slums. However taking courage to enter the slum, I was shocked to see it was like a township of its own, with well organised living system. Important thing is nobody looked starving or short of money. I could evaluate that the people living in these slums were better organised and had better living facilities than those living in huts and side of railway tracks. This being the case, the inamtes of these slums naturally must have got offended to be called slum dogs, when in fact they were not, and in their thought the ones who came to use them get awards were.

Congrats A R. Better late than never. If you could be nominated for a song like "Jai Ho," I think there are better songs of yours in the past like Roja, dil se etc. Sadly They went unnoticed during that time

Congrats AR Rahaman. But I feel very sad that LAGAAN could not get Oscar despite being much better in quality than Slumdog. Looks like issue of perception in western countries.

On the one hand, I am happy for Rahman. On the other hand, it goes onto prove that Oscar / Golden Globe are essentially for wester-style movies/music. They never understand anything other than western style. Let's get it right - Rahman has composed much better music to other Indian movies which never made to Oscar. All these things are happening because the movie 'Slum-dog' is directed by a westerner, targeting western audience.
