UAE, Nov 29: Udyavarites, UAE, the forum of Udyavar parishioners residing in the UAE, celebrated “Vodlem Festh 2008” in commemoration and adoration of their Patron Saint St Francis Xavier on Friday November 28.
The event held at Dubai Grand Hotel, Marhaba Banquet Hall was attended by approximately 250 guests. The programme commenced at 12:30 pm with a welcome dance by Baby Natasha and then followed by a hymn to the patron Saint by core committee members and Gospel reading by Vinitha Fernandes.
The president of Udyavarites Vivian D’Silva reiterated the purpose of the association namely, “Unity, Generosity and Service." For the benefit of the sponsors, well-wishers and the guests he highlighted the achievements in fulfilling the purpose of the association and called upon all to lend their helping hand generously by giving their time, talent & treasure by any proportion.
The high point of the programme was felicitation of the main benefactor and sponsor Alfred D' Souza and Carol D'Souza of CAB real estate, Dubai. His generous gesture was highly appreciated and memento was presented to him. Also, Robert Fernandes, one of the active Udyavarites members was felicitated for his contribution to Konkani literature in various mediums. Further, all sponsors of the show were felicitated with special word of gratitude. Vivian D’Silva, Donald Machado, Gilbert Dsa and Anthony D'Silva felicitated the sponsors.
Various hilarious skits and jokes by members sent the audience in peals of laughter. The skits such as “Bikhari” by Donny Pereira, Robert Fernandes, Clarence and others. “Doctor” by Jeffery Castelino, Veena D'Silva and Clarence. “Grocery Shop” by Jochim D'Souza, Donny Pereira, Clarence and others. “Railway Station” by Vivian D'Silva, Veena D'Silva, Jeffery Castelino and kids were appreciated by one and all.
Live music and melodious Konkani and other regional songs were presented by Canute Mathias, Arun Carlo and his team, which kept our audience tapping their feet. Ocean Kids represented by Silvia and Rithesh enthralled the gathering with their groovy dance performance.
The programme was compered by Uttam Menezes. He was very active and agile and conducted several games for kids, adults, quiz, spot prizes and ensured the audience were always involved and felt part of the programme.
Buffet lunch as served by Dubai Grand Hotel. All relished the food. Post lunch American Auction by Jochim D'Souza, Bingo by Rafael D'Souza, Raffle draw and vote of thanks by Ryan were held and the programme culminated with a Baila dance.
