Kuwait: Mangalore Stars Win Inaugural KCWA Cricket Cup

Kuwait, Nov 22: Mangalore Stars won the first-ever KCWA Cricket cup held for members on Friday November 21 at Ahmadi grounds.

The matches began at 7:30 am after the formal inauguration by releasing balloons. Rinna D’Souza led the prayers. President Jossie Pinto welcomed the guest of honor and match referee Archie Menezes, all the players, members and family, who arrived in large numbers to witness the event.

In the truly intriguing and nail-biting finals, Mangalore Stars led by Melwyn Serrao beat tournament favorites Sharq United led by Mahesh Prabhu by 5 wickets to lift the coveted cup. Earlier in the Semi-finals, Mangalore stars beat Trinity CC by 9 wickets while Sharq United beat the spirited Blue Rangers by 3 wickets. 

KOC Cricket committee representative Mohammed Sarwar and Archie Menezes gave away the prizes. Kiran Gonsalves of Sharq United won the Best Bowler award, Simon of Mangalore Stars won the Best Batsman award and James of Blue Rangers was adjudged the Best All Rounder. The event concluded at 2:30 pm.

Rudy D’Souza and Steven Machado entertained the crowd with witty running commentary throughout the day. Lancy Rodrigues and Steven Misquith provided lively DJ music. Alex Rego successfully coordinated the whole event.

The tournament was sponsored by Little India Restaurant, Melwyn Serrao and MAnand D’Souza (Illuminations).
