Mumbai, Nov 17: Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road, staged a Tulu comic play by Devdas Kapikad titled 'Kebi Pittale' at St Joseph church grounds, Mira Road in aid of the activities of Carmel Seva Sadan, the NGO from Bellar, on Sunday November 16. Parish priest of St Joseph Church Fr Rudolf D'Souza presided over the programme and Fr Elias D’Souza, director of Carmel Seva Sadan, was the chief guest. Several political dignitaries, industrialists etc. were also present at the dais.
"We need to live like a flower garden. There is no charm if similar flowers bloom all over the garden. If suitable environment is created to grow all kinds of flowers, then the garden wears a new look. Likewise, people belonging to all classes, castes and religions need to live like flowers in a harmonious environment," Fr Rudolf said. He also chanted some hymns from the Vedas and spoke on the importance of peace by singing 'Asatoma Sadgamaya'. He said that people, irrespective of their religious affiliations, are welcome to church premises any time.
In his address, mayor of Mira-Bhayander thanked Calist Cardoza for organizing the programme in aid of Carmel Seva Sadan and praised Fr Eias for helping the needy. Ex-mayor of Mira-Bhayander Praful K Patil said that Tulu is increasingly becoming popular and that he would learn and speak in Tulu in the next programme.
Fr Elias D'Souza explained about various programmes drawn up by his organization for the upliftment of impoverished villagers of Bellary villages. He thanked Fr Rudolf for his cooperation and support and expressed happiness about the fact that Tulu is thriving in this cosmopolitan city.
John Crasta, Konkani Welfare Association Mira Road president and various dignitaries and well-wishers were present. Mohan Rai compered the programme.
The Tulu comedy, 'Kebi Pittale' directed by Devadas Kapikad that was performed thereafter, received tremendous response from the audience. The address of Carmel Seva Sadan which conducts multifarious activities for the benefit of the less fortunate is as follows:
