Mangalore: District Chess Players Excel in State Chess Competitions

Mangalore, Oct 28:  Viani Antonio D’Cunha of St Aloysius High School and Vanessa D’Souza of St Agnes High School, emerged champions in the Under-14 boys’ and girls’ categories of the state-level inter school chess tournament held at Maratha Mandal Mangal Karyalaya, Nippani, Chikkodi of Belgaum district, recently.

Gahan M G of Canara Boys’ High School and Pavitra Jagtap of Bangalore, were declared  champions in the Under-17 boys’ and girls’ category. The top five players in each category will represent the state in the forthcoming National School Chess Tournament to be conducted by the School Games Federation Of India (SGFI).

Under-14 boys’:

Augustine and H S Karthik of  Bangalore, Rakshith Umesh of Bhadravathi, and Ninad Prabhu of  Belgaum..

Under-14 girls’:

Andrea D’Souza  of St Anges English.Primary School, Mangalore, Chrissel Ann Pais of Ladyhill English Primary School, Mangalore, Shalon J Pais of St Agnes English Primary School, Mangalore and Sampada of Hassan.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
Under-17 boys’:

Shreeshan and Yashas D from Shimoga, R Nagesh from Bangalore, and Sumith Bhat of Canara Boys High School, Mangalore.

Under-17 girls’:
 
Riola D’Souza of SVS Vidyagiri, Bantwal, Bhargavi Alva from St Agnes High School, Raksha and Puja Shekhar from Canara Girls’ High School,Mangalore.
