Mumbai, Oct 27:
The fifth annual day celebrations of Kutam, a Konkani weekly published from metro was held at Zaveriben Popatlal auditorium, Ghatkopar (East) here on Sunday October 26.
 
Model Co-Operative Bank chief executive officer and Aldel Education Trust chairman Albert W D Souza was the chief guest of the occasion.  He inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
 
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy former president Eric Ozario, Abu Dhabi entrepreneur Thomas Sequeira, Israel Kutam representative Austin F Lobo were the guests of honour.
 


Albert W D Souza congratulated Kutam Konkani weekly's editor and publisher Henry D Paula, Evelyn H D Paula and Prafulla H D Paula by presenting them with flower bouquets.
 
Speaking at the occasion, he said that Kutam Konkani weekly is the mirror of Konkani speaking community in the metro, had given major boost to unite the brethrens.  It has fulfilled the needs of committed readers who look for native and local news including articles on current issues in Konkani.
 
Meanwhile, Albert conveyed that Kutam Konkani weekly to scale greater heights at the leadership of editor Henry D Paula and shine as peoples voice. 
 
Eric Ozario said that it's not an easy task to run a newspaper.  The journalism in the past was much complex than the journalism now.  The times only have changed while the situation of journalism has not changed at all.  The burdens of publishers are increasing on every passing day and are struggling to get out of such situation.  The journalism is not the last resort for career seekers.  Kutam Konkani weekly has the capability to unite all Konkani speaking people for common goal.  One should be proud of mother tongue Konkani at all times, he called on.
 
Fr Cyril D Souza, veteran musician Lawrence Saldanha, Henry D Souza, Victor Concesso, Stanley Saldanha, Aloysius D Souza Pune, Mitr Konkani weekly sub editor Vitori Karkal, Richard Serrao Vasai, Henry D Souza Borivali and others were present at the dais.
 
Ancy Paladka welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. 
 
Kutam Konkani weekly editor and publisher Henry D Paula in his introductory speech said that journals or newspapers are a waste without the readers.  The readers are the life blood of journals.  The readership has given strong base for Kutam.
 
`Jana Soglo Ganv', a Konkani play by Joker Cascia and directed by Sunny A D Souza was staged as part of entertainment programme.
