Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 24: Prajna Counselling Centre is a registered, non-profit, secular service organization with its headquarters in the city. This organization owes its existence to Prof Hilda Rayappan, who is a retired Professor of the school of social work Roshani Nilaya and former dean of St Aloysius College of Social Work. She dreamed of helping families in distress so that, the social fabric is strengthened and children and women have a healthy living within their own homes.

To-date, Prajna Counselling Centre is the only family Counselling centre, which offers the services any time of  the day, without seeking any returns for its services. The well-being of the individual and thereby the families, is the only remuneration they hope for, in exchange for the services rendered by it.

Recognizing the spirit behind the service of Prajna, various central government, state government, women and child development initiatives etc.,  have entrusted implementaiton of serveal of their schemes, to Prajna. With the growing needs of the changing times, the scope of work had to undergo changes. Today, Prajna's work spans across all the age groups and all kinds of needy people of the society. Their programmes today are directed at men, women, children, destitute, young boys, and substance addicts - namely alcohol addicts.

The sole motto of Prajna is to assist individuals to overcome personal and social problems and re-integrate them into the families and communities that they come from, for it is their natural habitat and it is the best place for them to re-start and have a stress-free life.

The readers can read extensively on all that goes on at Prajna Counselling centre, by visiting its website www.prajnacounsel.com.

Prajna is a dynamic organization. It never is a mere executioner, but a leader for changing climate around us. Most of the street children, abandoned children  etc., are looked after and brought up by Prajna to be the finest citizens, by providing them education, not the basic, but the professional one. These young men and women will set forth in the world with no inhibitions what so ever, and are footed on-par with children from regular families. Once again, the professional training is provided in famed institutions in Mangalore, government polytechnic etc.

Towards women, they are not just provided shelter, but have been training them to become financially independent, in activities such as tailoring, bag making, and embroidery. Young girls are trained on computer, English language, and office etiquette.

For all these and more that Prajna has been doing and wants to do further, the financial support is not forthcoming to the desired level. While there grants and assistance, it is never enough because of the volume of work, the rising prices and needs at every segment.

Prajna is not happy requesting for financial assistance, as it is involved with work that requires continuous and repetitive services. It would like rather, to focus on what the organization is good at and what generates better result in the long run. But, financial requirement is a reality. To sustain itself, the Counselling Centre has initiated some kind of revenue generation work for itself and it wants to add to these activities.

Towards the newer initiative, Prajna has set up a computer centre, where it is able to undertake data processing work, BPO / call centre work, data compiling work etc. Prajna looks for entrepreneurs who will be able to use its services and draw mutual benefit. The centre says, it is  open for changes, to learn and to adapt itself to the needs of the enterpreneurs.
