Udupi: Barbers Community Seeks Reservation

The district unit of the Barbers Federation for Reservation, organized a meet on Tuesday October 21, seeking reservation for their community from the government.
 
MLA Raghupathy Bhat inaugurated the meet and said that every community should organize programmes for upliftment of the poor in society. He said that staging an apolitical struggle for just causes and restraining from misusing reservation, was essential. 



 
Meanwhile, Bhat announced a contribution of Rs 5 lac from his MLA’s fund for the construction of a barbers’ building in the city. Earlier in the day, the Federation held a rally from the city bus stand to Town Hall seeking special benefits.
 
Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, and Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, were the chief guests. Sadashiv Bangera Kurkalu welcomed the gathering while Keshav Bhandary Katpady proposed the vote of thanks.

    It is sad that they still do not have reservation while many progressive communities who do not need reservations have it.
