Mangalore, Oct 21: The National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) was launched at the College of Fisheries on Monday October 20. Addressing the gathering after launching the project, Prof Suresh S Honnappagol, vice-chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal, and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, said such projects would help attract more students to fisheries studies in the country.

He also announced that the university would provide a 25 per cent subsidy to students to buy laptops to keep abreast of technology. ‘We will introduce technology in the university. Students can then do their work by sitting in their room instead of in the laboratory, by using modern technology’, he added.

Dr P Thangaraju, vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, Dr N T Yaduraju, natonal co-ordinator, NAIP Component-i, ICAR, New Delhi, and Prof S M Usturge, director of research, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal, and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, were the guests. Prof Y Basavaraju, dean, College of Fisheries, presided over the function. Dr B A Shamsundar and Dr K M Shankar, of NAIP were also present on the occasion.
