NCW asks Bihar DGP to probe mob assault of woman


New Delhi, Aug 21 (IANS): The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday directed the Bihar police chief to investigate an incident in which a woman was assaulted and stripped by a mob suspecting that she was involved in the murder of a youth.

"The Commission has written to the DGP, Bihar for investigation. The NCW has also directed him to apprise the Commission of detailed action taken in the matter at the earliest," an official statement said.

The Commission said it has also taken cognizance of the fact that no arrest has been made by the police till now even after many photos and videos have been circulated on social media.

The incident which happened in Bihiya town surfaced on Monday. The woman has been taken under police custody and is undergoing medical tests. However, she denied the allegations against her.
