Mangalore: ‘Wildlife Week–08’ Launched at Pilikula

Mangalore, Oct 4:
‘Wildlife Week - 08’ was launched at Dr Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Biological Park here on Saturday October 4, in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.
 
Addressing the gathering, J Krishna Palemar, minister for ecology and environment, said that people should be concerned about maintain the biological balance of the environment. He was speaking after inaugurating the programme.
 
He said, ‘Overuse of fertilizers kills worms in the soil which are known as a farmer’s friend. Maintaining biological balance is the responsibility of human beings. Otherwise, we have to confront unprecedented diseases like Chikungunya.’

Palemar assured that the state government will enhance tourism in Dakshina Kannada district by developing the park and backwater tourism. He also laid the foundation stone for a veterinary hospital and quarantine and post-mortem complex. The blackbuck and elephant enclosures were inaugurated on the occasion.
 
An exhibition of wildlife photography by Dr Akthar Hussain, and the stamp collection and collection of birds’ nests by Dr N A Madhyastha, were also held on the park premises.
 
MLA Abhayachandra Jain, DC Maheshwara Rao, ZP member Vinod Mada, park director JR Lobo, HJ Bhandary, ZP president K Sucharitha Shetty, and others were present on the occasion.
