The Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir has grieved the demise of veteran playback singer Mahendra Kapoor in Mumbai on Saturday, 27th September 2008.

In his condolence message, Jamir said: "Mahendra Kapoor belonged to the galaxy of the great singers who dominated the Hindi film industry for close to four decades. Shri Kapoor was a versatile singer and had rendered his mellifluous voice to many songs, including some ever-popular patriotic songs. With his demise, that touching voice of patriotic music has fallen silent.

I join the millions of admirers of the late Shri Mahendra Kapoor in paying my deep respects to his loving memory".
