Bangalore, Au 12: Home minister V S Acharya has informed, that the government has decided to bring into operation the Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (KCOCA) with some amendments, through an ordinance. The KCOCA which got the President's nod in 2002 was not properly framed. Passing the ammendments through the legislature is a lengthy process. "Hence, we are considering passing an ordinance to get the needful done at the earliest," he clarified.

Speaking to reporters on Monday August 11, he said that the nature of ammendments to be brought in the act will be decided after having discussion with the concerned officials, within the next ten days.

Acharya refused to divulge details as to which sections of the Act will be tinkered with. A final decision will be taken in the meeting with the officials, he revealed.

The ammendments brought in by Maharashtra state to Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, will be discussed. "We may opt to bring ammendments on the same lines. While amending the KCOCA, we also demand for re-enacting the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), he said.

The state government will have freedom to obtain whatever assistance needed to control naxal activities, from the central government, including helicopters. The government wants to rein in naxal activities fully, Acharya stated.

Investigations into the bomb blasts are on. In the public interest, details of the investigations cannot be revealed now. About 500 people have been interrogated so far, he said.
