Mangalore: Chief Minister to Review District's Progress

Mangalore, Aug 8: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa will be chairing a progress review meeting of the development of the district on September 2 and 3 in the city.

The government had in the past, formed Coastal Development Workforce to monitor progress of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Some of the recommendations of the workforce have been implemented. The chief minister proposes to discuss on pending issues from the report and also new activities, at the proposed meeting with the officials from various departments.

The district deputy commissioner has formed nine sub-committees for implementing the report of the workforce. These sub-committees are engaged in their tasks.

The sub-committee headed by PWD executive engineer B S Balakrishna has been studying about infrastructure-related projects with specific emphasis on important roads that need to be developed. The committee is of the opinion that substandard works, non-execution of works as per plans, non-providing of proper drains etc., as the main reason for the deterioration of roads. If quality is maintained, the roads can be serviced without much problem, the committee opined.
