Mangalore: MSEZ Takes up Green Belt Programme - Plants Saplings

Mangalore, Aug 6: As part of green belt development programmme, a tree planting event was organized at the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Rand R) colony, Kulai by Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd (MSEZ) on Tuesday August 5.
 
In the first phase of R and R colony, 3000 saplings are being planted as part of the green belt area to be developed by MSEZ. Emphasis is being laid on planting saplings of local varieties as well as those having medicinal value. 

Saplings were planted by eminent dignitaries including Dinesh Nayak Vittal of Sasyashyamala fame, an expert in herbal plant species, Rajamani, managing director of Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd., I S N Prasad, managing director and chief executive officer of MSEZ, Vijaya Kumar, deputy conservator of forests, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, special land acquisition officer of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, K N Prabhu, president of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mangalore, Shreedhar, Director IL and FS, Bhujanga Shetty, chairman, PDF committee, Devanna Shetty, chairman, DIX Engineering, Raghavendra Rao, Mohan Moolya Kalavara and officials from MSEZ.  Representatives of project displaced families participated actively in the event by planting trees.

Speaking on the occasion I S N Prasad, MD, MSEZ said, that the company is committed to developing a full-fledged greenbelt including medicinal, rare and endangered plants of local varieties to cover the project requirement.

    Jossy, you are right. This is a big farce! destroy green lands for unscrupulous profit and plant a few saplings for 'photo' and press opportunity!!

    Ok its good move , but hope there will be water for the plants to grow as trees.. If they plant these trees now how come they are now acquiring land with green trees?
