Was discouraged from taking up dance reality show: Sukhwinder

Mumbai, Feb 11 (IANS): Popular singer Sukhwinder Singh says many people discouraged him when he decided to participate in a dance reality TV show. But he hopes to see more people breaking the norms and broadening their horizons.

Sukhwinder had participated in dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" back in 2014.

He visited the set of music reality show "Rising Star" recently as a guest judge, and was surprised by the talent.

Of his experience, Sukhwinder said in a statement: "Being a playback singer, I am aware of the challenges that one has to face while performing live. All eyes are on you and nervousness does sets in.

"But it marvels me how these contestants from different backgrounds and career paths are fearlessly performing live on the stage of 'Rising Star' and entertaining the nation with their soulful voices.

"This show is a perfect example of breaking barriers and kudos to all the contestants. The show, besides finding the next musical sensation, is also giving out a beautiful message of breaking societal norms.

"I remember, when I took up a dance reality show, many discouraged me and advised me to not broaden my horizons but I proved them wrong."

"Rising Star", aired on Colors, features Shankar Mahadevan, Monali Thakur and Diljit Dosanjh as the expert panel.

The episode featuring Sukhwinder will air on Sunday.
