Mangalore: Uttam Kumar Basu MRPL New MD

Mangalore, DHNS:

Mangalore, Aug 3: Uttam Kumar Basu will take charge as the new Managing Director for Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) on September 1, 2008.

An announcement in this regard was made by MRPL Chairman R S Sharma soon after the AGM at MRPL on Saturday. The present MD, R Rajamani, who has been with the MRPL ever since it was commissioned in 1993, will retire on August 31, 2008. A chemical engineer from the reputed Jadavpur University in West Bengal, Mr Basu carries with him over three decades of professional experience in refinery operations and management in Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

According to a press release, Basu made his mark in IndianOil and in the Indian Oil Refining Sector through his contribution during “construction to commissioning” of Mathura Refinery and Panipat Refinery. He also served in various capacities in IndianOil’s refinery headquarters and in the refineries at Mathura, Haldia, Barauni, Panipat and Gujarat — ranging from the company’s largest to the most modern. Basu took over as the executive director of Gujarat Refinery in June 2006 and since then, led the refinery to unprecedented heights in performance and turnover, the release added.
