Moodbidri: Accident Claims Life of Tempo Driver

Moodbidri, Jul 24: One person died while another was critically injured when a private inter-city bus and a goods tempo collided near here on Thursday July 24 afternoon.
 
The deceased has been identified as Manjunath, driver of the tempo. His associate Venkatesh, suffered major injuries and was admitted to A J Hospital in Mangalore. 


The goods tempo plying from Mangalore to Moodbidri was carrying cargo intended for a cashew processing plant in Moodbidri, when it collided with the private bus plying in the opposite direction. The accident occurred at Thodar, on a steep curve of a ‘madrasa’ located on the Mangalore-Moodbidri state highway 13, on Thursday afternoon.
 
Around 15 students and other passengers, including driver Sameer, who were traveling in the private bus, got away with bruises. Sources informed that the rash driving of the bus driver was responsible for the ghastly accident, which stalled traffic till the traffic cops from Moodbidri town arrived to tow the damaged vehicles and cleared the road.
 
Moodbidri town sub-inspector Bharati arrived at the spot and registered a case.
