Dubai, Jul 12: The SMKC Indoor Sportz event organised by the sports committee of SMKC Dubai, was organised at the Insportz, Dubai on Friday, July 11, 2008. Because of the scorching heat of summer Dubai is experiencing, the event was held at this air-conditioned indoor stadium. Exuberance, support and an air of bonhomie were evident all through the event that was held in a friendly atmosphere in a very organised manner.

The event started with a small prayer rendered by SMKC Core Committee member Norbert Sequeira. This was followed by an introductory talk delivered by sports co-ordinator Vincent Pereira. SMKC main co-ordinator Boniface Carlo and honorary advisor Noel Mascarenhas, who has been the backbone of the team, delivered inaugural speeches.

Noel expressed his elation at the sight of Konkani speaking brethern turning up in large numbers for the event. He also extended his best wishes to the participating teams.









The cricket tournament was pronounced open by Noel Mascarenhas while the throw ball tournament was declared open by vice co-ordinator Jennifer Mascarenhas/Eslie Noronha. Jennifer expressed her happiness over the presence of large crowds of enthusiastic people and the ebullient teams.

12 cricket teams and four throw ball teams participated in the SMKC Indoor Sports Event that was held at Insportz, Dubai. The morning session went on very well.  Lunch was served to the playing teams and guests, numbering over 300. Immediately after the events concluded, closing ceremony was held. Sponsors were felicitated, followed by the felicitation of SMKC members who had supported the sports event financially. Presentation of prizes to the winning and runner up teams followed.

Throw Ball:

Winner: KCO, Abu Dhabi ; The trophy was presented by SMKC Honorary Advisor Noel Mascarenhas. Mementoes were presented by core committee member Frenny Fernandes.

Runner Up: Mangalore Konkans, Dubai ; Trophy was presented by Francis D'Souza, administrative manager, Johnson Arabia LLC, Dubai. Mementoes were presented by Lavina and Melwin Pereira.

Player of the tournament award went to Jessy Rasquinha, KCO, Abu Dhabi. This trophy was presented by corre committee and sports committee member Elsie Norohna.

Cricket:

Winning Team: Buntwal Tigers. Trophy was presented by main co-ordinator Boniface Carlo. Mementoes were presented by sports committee member Ullas Fernandes.

Runner Up: Milagreans. Trophy was presented by core committee and sports committee member Sydney Lewis. Mementoes were presented by vice co-ordinator Jennifer Mascarenhas.

Best Bowler: This award went to Lasly from Nakre Youngsters for bagging seven wickets by conceding only 20 runs. Trophy was presented by Bridjit Carlo, wife of the main co-ordinator.

Best Batman: Award was bagged by Rajesh D'Souza from Milagreans, for having scored 38 runs. Trophy was presented by SMKC core committee member and vice president of Ferarites-UAE, Norbert Sequeira.

Player of the Tournament: Award went to Sunil Pinto (33 runs, 7 wickets for 18 runs) from Milagreans. Trophy was presented by SMKC sports co-ordinator and president of Ferarites-UAE Vincent Pereira.













 

B G Mohandas of Gulf Kannadiga, ex president of Karnataka Sangha Dubai and Robert Rego, president of KCO, Abu Dhabi and Menino Poe, Center Manager-Insportz Dubai and his team were felicitated.

Main co-ordinator Boniface Carlo proposed vote of thanks. He profusely thanked all the sponsors, co-sponsors, benefactors and well wishers for their generous support for the event.He also thanked all the participating teams for their dedication and hard work.  He also expressed his gratefulness to Insportz, Dubai for rendering full support and finally thanked all the crowd for their presence in such large numbers and supporting the teams and the organizers.
 
The entire event was conducted by Sports coordinator -Vincent Pereira, who was well supported by committee members Boniface Carlo, Sydney Lewis, Ullas Fernandes and Elsie Noronha.
 
Credit for the tremendous success of the event goes to SMKC Sports Committee, especially its sports co-ordinator and main co-oridnator, for meticulously  executing the whole sports event in a professional manner from the very start till the finish with the able support of Insportz, Dubai. More than two months of hardwork had been put in by the SMKC sports team for holding this event successfully.
