Mangaluru: Prabath theatre closed for renovation

Mangaluru, Dec 9: One of the oldest cinema theatres in the city, ‘Prabhath’, has been shut down for renovation.

While this may not be shocking news for all, Coastalwood cinema will suffer due to it as Tulu films are more dependent on the theatre for its releases.

The renovation work of balcony has already commenced. What comes as good news for cine lovers is that air-conditioning, new chairs and screen will be set up at the earliest.

Prabhath theatre was inaugurated in 1958. Dev Anand starrer Kaalapani was the first movie to be screened in the theatre.

It is also known for blockbuster Tulu movies such as Rang (110 days), Madime (104 days), Chandikori (123 days), Pavithra (104 days), and Pilibail Yamunakka (156 days).
