Mumbai, Jul 8: Popular Telugu actress Genelia D'Souza was born on August 5, 1987, in England. Her parents originally hail from Goa and later moved to Mumbai. She has acted over a dozen films in South Indian cinema. Genelia studied at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai. After school, she joined the St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue a Bachelor's Degree. Mumbai-based Genelia starred in the big budgeted Boys by top director Shankar. She starred opposite fellow débutante Siddharth. The film was a box-office hit and launched her career.

She is also known to people close to her as Harini. Genelia made her move from England to India in pursuit of her childhood dream of becoming an actress. She got her first break in the movie 'Boys' directed by Shankar. The film was a box-office hit and soon Genelia started getting more roles. Genelia has so far acted in over a dozen Telugu, Tamil and Hindi movies.

Genelia - The Tollywood Actress

Genelia's success rate in Tollywood has been pretty good. Her movies Satyam, Masti, Samba, Sye and Happy have all fared pretty well at the box office. Despite getting good roles and her movies doing average business commercially, Genelia was still waiting for that one big hit that could change her career. The wait was not long as her most recent movie 'Bommarillu' has had a huge positive impact on Genelia’s career.

Bommarillu, with Genelia and Siddharth Narayan in the lead, became a super duper hit and gave her career the much needed boost. In the movie Genelia plays the role of a talkative and bubbly girl 'Hasini' who does whatever she likes to do. Her acting skills have been well appreciated throughout the industry and she won many awards for the movie.

Finally the true acting talent of Genelia has come to forefront with 'Bommarillu' and now time will tell if Genelia can become the number one actress in South India. Her latest movie Dee with Vishnu directed by Sreenu Vytla is expected to come out in January or February. Genelia also recently bagged the role of leading lady opposite Aamir Khan's nephew Imraan Khan in his debut Bollywood movie Tu Ya Jaane Na.

Genelia is happy to be paired with young heroes in the industry and she said that, she has big dreams but is ready to wait patiently to achieve them one after another. The young actress also said that she should have a meaty role in a movie and does not like to be branded as a heroine who appears in a couple of scenes and songs and fades away from a movie.

Recently industry sources have reported that Genelia is rejecting new offers as her marriage is on cards. Genelia fell in love with a Tamil hero, Bharat. Love between the couple blossomed during the shooting of the Tamil film ‘Chennai Kadal’.

Genelia also starred in the big budget Boys directed by Shankar. The film proved to be a box-office hit and launched her career.

The actress has large dark eyes with killing smile. She has an uncommon look which parts her from others. She doesn’t have airy looks like Kangna Ranawat or Celina Jetly nor is she glamorous like Bipasha or Kareena. She can aptly be called the ‘girl-next-door’ who is ready to take on to your nerves as she opens her mouth. Her unique speaking quality and bubbly expressions do not fail to sweep you off the grounds. She has got a fresh momento in her acts.

Recently, she won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress for her performance in the blockbuster movie Bommarillu. She is yet to rock the Bollywood with her vibrant colours with her coming movies: It’s My Life in which she paired with Harman Baweja and a multistarrer movie Life Partner.
