Mumbai, Jun 30:
The annual feast of St Peter, patron saint of Barkoor association, was celebrated in the metro on Sunday, June 29, at Holy Family high school auditorium, located at Chakala, Andheri (East).

Fr Donnath D’Souza, administrator of St Michael’s Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour shrine, Mahim, offered the thanksgiving mass along with other priests.  In his homily, he said, ‘in the modern era, the faithful should shun superstitious beliefs with due emphasis on spirituality.  Life would be worth lived, if we show empathy to fellow men free from doubt.  It’s essential to pray daily; instead of seeking favours from God only when faced with trials and tribulations. The celebrations will have greater meaning if the members emulate their patron saint Peter who was the most loved disciple of Jesus Christ.’

Founder of Canarites Youth Association, Mumbai, and well-known dramatist, Henry D’Silva Suratkal, said, ‘the reputation of St Peter’s association can be gauged from the generosity of its members. They are generous enough to help the people in difficulty without distinction.  Despite being settled in the metro, they have contributed significantly to the progress of their native people, and educational institutions, back in their hometown.’

Entrepreneur Harry Rebello Chembur, and musician Victor Concesso, were the guests of honour. Association president, Richard Carvalho gave the welcome address while honorary chief secretary, Ivan Rebello, explained the activities of the association. Vice president Norbert Menezes, honorary treasurer, Antony Dias, former presidents Felix Barnes, and Henry Roche, were present on the dais.

Carvalho honoured Gladys Sequeira, in recognition of yeomen service by her deceased husband and founder president of the association. Spiritual leader Aloysius D’Souza Chakala, and Sr Alice Serrao, honoured the guests with flower bouquets.

A Konkani musical extravaganza and games were organized as part of the entertainment programme.
