Mangalore: CMFRI holds Competitions on World Environment Day

Mangalore, Jun 5: "Kick the habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy", is the slogan for the  Environment Day 2008. The Mangalore Research Centre of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), is observing World Environment Day on June 5.  The theme has been selected, taking congnizance of the serious implications of the volatile climate changes being witnessed the world over.

Senior scientist K Vijayakumaran has informed, that CMFRI is organizing some competitions on the occasion. They are as follows:

  • An essay writing competition - for PUC/Intermediate students at CMFRI office, Bolar at 11 am. 
  • An elocution competition for graduate students at Geological Survey of India (GSI) auditorium, Pandeshwar, at 2 pm.
  • An exhibition in association with GSI at GSI at 2 pm and an environmental movie show at the GSI Auditorium at 4 pm.

World Environment Day aims to highlight resourses and initiatives, that promote low carbon economies and lifestyles.  The companies are also asked to take into account the phenomenon of green house gas emissions and focus on ways and means to reduce them.
