Mangalore, Jun 4: Owing to the four lane works on National Highway 17 between Suratkal and Nanthoor the traffic is being diverted from Mulky to Mangalore via Kinnigoli as per the orders issued by the deputy commissioner. The order has come into effect from Tuesday June 3. Hence movement of heavy vehicles between Thadambail near Suratkal and Nanthoor has been restricted. While some vehicles ply to the city via Kana, some other vehicles take a diversion at Mulky, proceed to Kinnigoli, go ahead to Bajpe and reach the city through Kavoor.

However, this has thrown up a peculiar situation to Kinnigoli. The road leading to the city is very narrow and is made up of several steep curves all along. Now that heavy vehicles such as ore-laden lorries, express buses are plying on this road, it has become very difficult to accommodate two-way traffic. Hence traffic bottlenecks have become almost the order of the day at Kinnigoli.

Moreover, the serpentine queue of heavy vehicles was piled up for kilometers together through the approach road to Kinnigoli bus stand and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception church, for almost one and a half hour on Wednesday June 4 morning. It was cleared with the assistance of locals, as no traffic cops were found.
