Mangalore, Jun 4: 'Most psychological problems occur in children because of poor relationships within the families. Therefore, relationship management is an important factor in any family,' said Dr Rameela Shekhar, head of the department of medical psychiatry, Roshni Nilaya.

Speaking on the topic ‘Relationship Management in Family,’ organized by Mangalore management association (MMA) on Tuesday, June 3, she said that everything which happens within the family has an impact on the family members. Therefore, good relationships in the family are the need of an hour, she opined.

Recognizing the presence of every member in the family and accepting the person for what he is, is very important in a family. Moreover, one should inculcate the habit of respecting each other, Shekhar continued.

'Criticize the act but not the person. Look at the rose when it is given to you, not the thorns. Meet the psychological needs of the family members with unconditional love,' she added.

Small acts of kindness, honouring expectations, keeping promises, and apologizing to family members can help in maintaining better relations within the family. Problems are common in every family. Recognizing problems and setting them right is more important in these situations. Moreover, free flow of communication has been affected due to the entry of television promoting families to grow inclusively, Shekhar lamented.

Shekhar Poojary, president of MMA, presided over the function. M P Kunju, general manager of Corporation Bank was felicitated on the occasion.

Savithri Rao invoked the prayer while T G Shenoy welcomed the gathering. Sumana Ghate introduced the guests.
