MUMBAI, May 27: Film financier and producer of several path-breaking Bollywood hits, Jhamu Sughand, died following a cardiac arrest on Monday morning. He was 57.

Sughand, a close family friend said, suffered a brain stroke early on Monday after which he was rushed to a hospital. The end came after he suffered a cardiac attack at 11am.

As a producer, Sughand had to his credit high-profile and successful films like Lagaan, Satya, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Aks, Black Friday and Earth. He financed films like Filhaal, Khubsoorat, Chachi 420 and Rangeela and also produced a couple of Bengali films ( Kalpurush and Swapner Din ).

But the last few years were not happy for Sughand. He split with his brother, Harish Sughand, and stopped producing films.

Then came the financial liabilities that forced him to declare himself bankrupt. Sughand then stopped attending filmi parties and making public appearances. He even sold off his last (incomplete) film, Gulal , which was being directed by Anurag Kashyap and became some sort of a recluse.

But Bollywood did not forget him when the end came. A host of tinsel-town biggies, like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sanjay Chhel, Bhushan Kumar, Anil Sharma, Vikas Mohan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Deepak Nikhalje, visited his Juhu residence on Monday to pay their last tributes.
