Mangalore, May 22: Regional Transport Authorities (RTA) seized a total of 25 passenger buses which are plying in the city for violating the transport rules, on Wednesday May 21.

Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) started the operation on cracking down on these buses on Wednesday morning, with the help of traffic police. These buses have been parked in the premises of Police Training School at Pandeshwar.

Speaking to Daijiworld, RTO Sadashiv said that the buses were seized as per Motor Vehicle Act. Court will decide future course of action against these buses, he added.

Sources informed that, a total of 82 buses are plying in the city violating transport rules. Hence, the operation against these buses will be continued on Thursday also, sources added.

Transport authorities had decided to affix different kinds of stickers to buses, in order to easily identify such buses which are plying violating the transport rules. The deadline given to affix stickers was ended on May 7. Many stage carriage buses were plying in the city even after this cut off date, without affixing the stickers. Therefore, these buses have been seized, RTO defended his act.

The conductors and drivers of these seized buses were jobless for Wednesday, for the mistakes committed by the owners of these buses. They had to spend their whole day at Police Training School premises where the buses are parked.
