Mangaluru: Maa Kaho Ya Mom - Tribute to Sridevi in ‘Maa - Yeh Cinemaa Hai’

Mangaluru, Aug 11: This week’s episode is a special episode that is dedicated to the actress Sridevi. Director Sundeep Malani has been a diehard Sridevi fan since his childhood and the world knows about it. So is Sridevi and her family who are aware of it and they rightly acknowledge it.

This year has been the Golden Year for Sridevi as she completed 50 years in Indian Cinema. She started at the age of four with her first Tamil film, Thunaivan in 1967. And since then she has acted as child artist in more than 30 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Then at the age of 13, she became the heroine with ‘Moondru Mudichchu’ in Tamil and ‘Anuragalu’ in Telugu and she entered Hindi films with ‘Julie’ as Lakshmi’s sister. Since then, she has till date acted in 300 films, latest one being ‘Mom’ for which she has been very much appreciated for her award winning performance.

Sundeep Malani, with his latest offering, ‘Maa - Yeh Cinemaa Hai’ has given a tribute to Sridevi with many scenes from the series that reminds of the actress. He says, “All the films that I have done so far, be it SMS 6260, Miss California, Jo Jo Laali, Janleva 555, Sulige Sikkidaaga has something or the other scenes and sequences that has a Sridevi connection, and I have continued the same with ‘Maa’ in which many a scenes from it reminds of her films.”

The episode features those scenes from the series, which Malani gives a narration and showcases it as well. Alia has her ringtone of the hit song, ‘Neele Neele Ambar Par’ that also plays in one of a scene as a radio song, and finally at her engagement, the song is been sung by Sajid, the host and is picturised on Alia and Arjun dancing waltz to the romantic number. Sonali, on whom the song ‘Heeriye’ is picturised, does the Sridevi’s cute facial expressions and her postures are those of ‘Chandni’. Besides Sridevi’s Hindi film was also titled ‘Heer Ranjha’. Deepika prepares Omlette for her fiancée Ranveer, and this scene reminds of ‘Justice Chaudhury’ and the one she prepares with lots of chillies in it and passes it on as green beans is a scene that reminds of ‘Chandni’ as well. Jaya Maa, has her phone ring tone too as the instrumental of ‘Mitwa’ from Chandni. Rekha gives Sidharth a medicine to consume after which he gets to dizzy, and this scene reminds of ‘Sadma’. While the scene in the song ‘Jeele Jeele’, Varun, Sonam, Ranveer and Deepika hear the sound of the coming train from a distance through the rail track reminds of the same scene from ‘Sadma’. Also, a shot from the Tamil film, Kalyana Raman is incorporated in a TV sequence while Kannan speaks to his mother Revathy and the magazine cover featuring Sridevi in the opening shot of the film, while Varun comes with a bouquet to wish Jaya Maa on her birthday.

The episode also features a special presentation of a musical documentary on Sridevi, celebrating her 54th birthday on August 13. The documentary features songs, scenes, pictures and a narration about the actress who has worked in 300 films till date, this being the 50th year of hers in film industry. Sundeep Malani was part of ‘Mom’ promotions and during which he had made a short presentation for Zee Studios about Sridevi’s career.

This special episode of ‘Maa’ features Sandeep Malani as he narrates, and includes Meena Malani, Sanjukta Ghosh, Reshma Malani, Sharanya Jit Kaur, Shubha Raksha, Jyoti Harindranath, Chanda Baburaj, Kamakshi Udaiyar, Velu Murugan, Ranjeet Jha, Bharath Lakshmikanth, Mahendra Pandey and Shivam Kataria.

This ‘Sridevi Special’ will be telecast in the fresh episodes of ‘Maa – Yeh Cinemaa Hai’ on Sunday, August 1, at 7.30 pm with its repeat on Tuesday, August 15 at 11.30 am and Friday, August 18 at 12 midnight and Saturday, August 19 at 10.30 am.

The film series is edited by Santosh Chawla with assistance by Vignesh Thanupillai. It is a The Studio Agency and Malani Talkies presentation. The story, screenplay, dialogues, camera and direction is by Sundeep Malani.
