Bangalore: No Post-Poll Tie-up, Says Advani

The Indian Express

Bangalore, May 4: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Saturday said his party would prefer to sit in the Opposition benches in the Karnataka Assembly rather than attempt any coalition in the event of a hung verdict in the state polls this month.

He said the failed coalition exercise with the Janata Dal Secular had made the party wary of another such attempt. Advani, however, expressed confidence that the BJP itself would garner the numbers needed to form a Government. “The virus of opportunism and betrayal by Congress and JD(S) played havoc with governance and development in Karnataka. The same virus is threatening to hit Karnataka's politics and governance again,” Advani said while talking to mediapersons. He said the Congress and JD(S) had made calculations for another hung Assembly to reenact the “unscrupulous politics they played after 2004, just to keep the BJP out of power”. Advani also sought a clear mandate for the BJP saying “Karnataka deserves much better than what it has got so far”.

While many parts of north, central and western India had been voting for the BJP, Karnataka was the only southern state that had shown an inclination for the party, he said. “The four southern states are not really with us. However, we have been observing Karnataka moving towards the BJP by winning seats in the state Assembly,” he said.

Asked why the BJP had given little representation for minorities while choosing its candidates for the current polls, Advani said it could be on account of a dearth. The blame for problems affecting minorities rests with the Congress which only use the group as a vote bank, the BJP leader said.

The BJP is already accepting its most likely defeat in the Karnataka elections. It is sadly going to be another hung assembly since the corrupt Cong-I too will not muster a majority, thanks partly to very bad choice of candidates, decisions driven by caste, factionalism and money power eg: the Mangalore division where all three rookie candidates are headed for defeat. The BJP had a loyal following and was popular until they projected a astrology driven leader as the CM, a politician who has forgotten his roots and now believe in changing his name for prosperity and power.

Added to it’s problems have been a corrupt Sate party president called Sadananda Gowda who has shamelessly betrayed the Sangh Parivar and hoisted his own puppets as candidates in key strongholds, eg: the shocking rejection of the ticket to the most popular Sakunthala Shetty in Puttur. While the recent visit of super star Modi to the state was a disaster with a mere few hundred attending his rally in Puttur (Sandananda’s home and future waterloo), it will be interesting to watch how many turn-up to listen to the Paki fan called Advani, whose dream is to occupy the PM’s chair for at least a day!
