Mangalore, May 1: Communal forces are growing alarmingly in the costal districts of the state and are engaged in creating enmity between the people. These fascist forces have been engaged in worsening the life of commoners through curfew and bundhs and have proved threat to the working force. Therefore, the working forces should come together to curb communal forces, said B Madhava, Center for Indian Trade Union (CITU) state leader.

Speaking at the labourers’ day celebrations organized by CITU and other left-led labour organizations on Thursday, May 1, he said that, labourers today are struggling for their basic rights. They have the responsibility to fight for new rights, along with retaining the rights already got by them through long struggle, he opined.

Neighbouring state Kerala is facing acute shortage of food nowadays. But the CPI (M)-led state government is importing the rice from West Bengal and distributing it at Rs 12 per KG. Thus, the state government is ensuring food security in Kerala. But the people of the state are an unfortunate lot and do not have such pro-poor government, he stated.

Labour leader K R Shriyan said that the Soviet Union, which protected the rights of labourers is not in existence now. That is why America has been active in spreading bureaucratic system all over the world. Labour class has the mission to continue the labour movement across the world to curb the bureaucratic philosophy of America, he called upon.

Labour leaders Vasant Achary, Yashwant Maroli, K Yadav Shetty and others were present on the dais.
