Mumbai, Apr 8: Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM) of Mulund celebrated its 49th anniversary recently. This social organization is running several organizations including schools and a degree college.  Former deputy Librarian of American Cultural Centre and Bollywood actor KD Chandran were chief guests on the occasion. Chairman of Mandal NBH Kulkarni presided over the function. Honorary secretary Dr PM Kamath gave brief accounts of the social activities of the organization.

The Kannada school started by this organization celebrated its golden jubilee last year. The golden jubilee celebrations were inaugurated by former Maharastra governor SM Krishna.

The school serves the poor Kannada-speaking migrants who are coming from different parts of the city. As there are not many Kannada schools in Mumbai the students have to travel a long distance to reach the school. Honorary secretary announced the introduction of a school bus. VPM runs an English medium school also. Dr Kamath announced that they are planning to change to CBSE syllabus from KG to sixth standard from the present academic year.

VPM has started a Kannada medium school at Navi Mumbai to serve Kannada-speaking people of the area and an International school at Airoli. Honorary secretary appealed for donation to start a degree college at Mulund.

Special entertainment programmes were presented at the end of the function.
