Car hits pedestrians in Melbourne, many injured


Melbourne, Jan 20 (IANS): Several pedestrians were injured and gunshots were heard on Friday in the second largest Australian city of Melbourne, a media report said.

The incident was reported from the city's major central business district (CBD) around 2 p.m.

The vehicle rammed into injuring pedestrians on the Bourke Street and Elizabeth Street, Xinhua news agency reported.

"I heard more than one gunshots just minutes ago. Police and emergency responding team quickly rushed to the scene and shot two of the suspects, one is still at large", the news agency reporter said.

The reporter also saw a man laid on the ground covered in white sheet, it added.

According to Ambulance Victoria and the police, several people were struck, but the total number was not yet made clear.
