Four held for thrashing Delhi constable

New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS): Four persons who thrashed a constable on duty after he asked them to drive their car carefully have been arrested, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

The accused identified as Vishal Sharma, 23; Harish Lohia, resident of Chhattarpur; Navjot Sehrawat, 23, resident of Mahipalpur; and their friend, Yatin Norang, 23, resident of Saidulajab were celebrating Harish Lohia's birthday in the running car.

"They were apprehended on Tuesday night from their residences after police first traced the address of Lohia, who was the owner of the car, and then held his three other friends in separate raids at their residences," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal told IANS.

The incident took place on Monday night at Vasant Kunj area in south Delhi, when their over-speeding car hit a police barricade.

"When constable Mohammad Alam, who was on duty there, told them to drive carefully, they came out from their car and started thrashing Alam. Later they fled," Biswal said.
