Mangalore, Feb 2: The decision of increasing the daily minimum wages of municipality workers has been made unanimously in the meet of Central Minimum Wages Advisory Board chaired by Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister of State for Labour (Independent charge) recently and the same has been submitted to the Union government, said Mohan PV, member of Central Minimum Wages Advisory Board.

While briefing media persons on the same at a press conference here on Saturday February 2, he added that the daily minimum wages of the municipality workers involved in sweeping and cleaning works have been increased, as per the newly-submitted proposal, from Rs 80 to Rs 125, from Rs 100 to Rs 150 and from Rs 120 to Rs 175 at C, B and A centers respectively.

Seeking the help of media in disseminating the benefits of the increase, he added that the submitted proposal is believed to bring in positive changes in the life of the municipality workers, provided they are educated in this regard.

According to him the dissemination proves useful as it does justice to all labourers working in the unorganized sector, who comprise of more than 90% of the fraternity of labourers in the nation. Listing the benefits he added that the benefits would accord financial security to the larger fraternity of labourers.

The dissemination is also need of the hour as it is increasingly observed that many of labourers working with the 'watch and ward system' may be deprived of deserved salary.  It is also supportive factor that the dissemination of the benefits may warn such workers of injustice and accord them the financial security, he hoped.

Tejaswi Raj and Supraj Malli of NSUI were present on the occasion.
